I remember the days when there is only one most popular messenger in the market viz. Yahoo Messenger. Which gives various option to connect with your friends and families, allowing to chat in various chat rooms. But this Messenger will no longer available after launching a new messaging app, Yahoo is all set to retire its 18-year old Messenger application on August 5. Those who are still using the old Messenger app will not to be able to access their chats after that.
“While today we provide basic inter-operation between the legacy product and the new Messenger, we encourage all of our users to complete their transition to the new Yahoo Messenger as we will no longer support the legacy platform as of August 5, 2016,” said Chief Architect Amotz Maimon in a post.
The chat service was introduced in 1998, and was very popular among Indian users then. The old version saw a decline in user base eventually, with several new services rising to the fore, including Google Talk, social networks likeFacebook, and smartphone chat apps like WhatsApp.
Yahoo will concentrate on seven core products: Mail, Search, tumblr, News, Sports, Finance and Lifestyles. To enhance its search earlier Yahoo has added Flickr images in the result page, also it has blocked users which install ad-blocker on the web browser allowing to monetise through the advertisements.
“To streamline and simplify products for our publisher community, we are discontinuing Yahoo Recommends on September 1, 2016,” added Maimon.
About New Messenger
Last year in December, Yahoo had launched its new Messenger app for Android, iOS, and the web.
“Yahoo decided it was time to build a ground-up rewrite of the platform that was completely modern and prepares Yahoo to ship really disruptive innovative features,” Yahoo Messenger senior director of product management, Austin Shoemaker, said while giving a look at the platform.
Yahoo has tried to provide users the best from its owned products and the new app integrates features from Flickr, Tumblr and Xobni.
The app has also got the ability to “unsend” comments or images. Posts that are “unsent” vanish from conversation threads at the service.
Yahoo paid attention to smoothen the transition from the old to the new version of its messenger service by helping people to import contact lists and making sure that they can connect with one another regardless of which app they use.
